Engineering Apprenticeships

The apprenticeship programme will last a minimum of 42 months with day release to the training provider. You will serve your time within all areas the workshop, with an aim to progress into the design office. Mitchell Dryers (Kingmoor) Ltd is a strong believer in learning all areas of the manufacturing process to build on the knowledge for the job required.

The role is centred on work-based learning alongside the trainer and by the end of the programme, you will have gained valuable on the job experience, new skills, and an industry recognised accreditation/qualification, that will offer you the opportunity to build a rewarding and successful career in the engineering sector.

Throughout the apprenticeship programme you will be supported and mentored by your colleagues, the management team and the training provider.

This apprenticeship is ideal for candidates looking to pursue an engineering design career. The course could lead into several different areas of our company, for example:

Apprentice Draughtsperson

  • You will begin your engineering journey in our workshop environment where you will learn the key skills you need to fabricate and assemble our industrial drying and process equipment.
  • Sheet metal, heavy engineering, pipework and maintenance will give a solid footing to enable a successful career designing and producing detailed manufacturing drawings of the equipment and machinery we supply around the globe.
  • You will transfer into the design department and be supported by a team of experienced and knowledgeable engineers where you will learn the fundamentals of machinery design.
  • As you gain more experience and skill you will begin taking control of your own design projects and become an integral part of the team by supporting engineers both in the workplace and on sites located around the world.

Apprentice Welder/Fabricator

  • Your engineering journey will begin in our workshop environment where we have a broad range of manufacturing equipment and skilled individuals that are utilised to manufacture large scale industrial drying and process equipment.
  • You will shadow experienced and knowledgeable engineers to help develop your skills and knowledge to a predefined training plan.
  • Key skills that you will learn when in the workshop environment will be TIG and MIG welding, sheet metal cutting and forming, heavy engineering using plate and large steel sections, assembly, fitting and maintenance.
  • Areas that you will become proficient in are industrial dryers and process machinery, pipework, general engineering manufacture, reading technical drawings, safe use of cranes, Health & Safety.
  • Throughout your employment with our company, you will get the opportunity to travel around the world installing and maintaining equipment to a high standard to ensure our customers are always satisfied and have reliable, well-built machinery.

Apprentice Electrical Engineer

  • You will begin your engineering journey in our workshop environment where you will learn the key skills you need to fabricate and assemble our industrial drying and process equipment.
  • Once basic manufacturing and metal working knowledge has been gained you will progress into electrical engineering where you will shadow and be mentored by our expert team.
  • Key skills you will learn will be cable & containment routing, control panel building, field wiring as well as fault finding and inspections.
  • You will become proficient in current standards and codes of practice as well as be fully aware of health and safety in the workplace.
